This painting is my version of a work by Mexican artist Jesus Helguera. When I first started painting I wanted to paint like him. His work is still a great influence on me. His work depicted a very romanticized version of Mexico. Growing up I shared this romantic view of the culture. Years later when I got to explore Mexico for real I began to see the reality of Mexican life. Mexico can be, like many places, at once beautiful and tragic.

Esta pintura es mi versión de una obra hecha por el pintor Jesus Helguera. Cuando recién comencé la pintura, la quise pintar como el la había pintado. Su trabajo aun influye al mío. Sus obras representan un versión romántica de México. Yo siempre he compartido esta perspectiva a cerca de mi cultura. Algunos años después, cuando tuve la oportunidad de explorar a México, empecé a conocer la realidad de la vida en México. Como muchos lugares, México es hermoso y la vez trágico.
